Needing a Shave

I wonder what an insect sees looking through its compound eyes. And how does the insect's mind process all that information? This grasshopper looks at us on this early evening capture. It appears he needs a bit of a shave!

Head of the Broom

We have a row of red cockscomb at our local park. These are odd looking flowers. The tall, thick stem combines with the bristly flower to look just like a broom!

Wash Up Time

Being very neat, this mantis meticulously cleans a talon. When one is a savage predator, one must keep the weapons of prey in top condition!

Great White Egret

I got to visit Galveston Island State Park for a couple of hours back in March. Nesting season was in progress and birds were everywhere. Since March is not tourist season there were not very many people wandering around the roads in the park. This egret sat around bobbing his head at me as I snapped a few poses!

Crab Apple Blossom Shadows

Our crab apple tree always provides us with a dazzling pink display every Spring. It only lasts for a few days though. However, our neighbors two trees, with a darker red blossom, usually follow ours by a day or so. Our end of the street has some bright colors for almost a week.

Bumblebee on a Purple Petunia

This was one of my first captures with my then new Sony a6000. I knew with this image that I had made a very good choice. Ever since I have enjoyed the sharpness and color of this camera!

Zinnia in Profile

Two zinnias from our south flower bed. Charlotte used to show these at the 4-H Fair. We like to see them open up with the variety of shape and color!

Morning Glories

We saw these morning glories in Amo, Indiana - a small town just west of Indianapolis. It was difficult to ignore the bright coloring of these flowers!

Yellow Rose (And A Few Thorns)

This year our yellow rose-bush has provided us with an abundance of yellow flowers. This bush is one of the oldest stands at our house. We first planted a start that my mother-in-law provided just a few days after we moved into the house back in 1988. It has had lean years and big years - this one is definitely a big year.

Wild Flower Predicament

It is tough being a wild flower and considered a weed in most gardens. Consider thistles - they present such a bright presence wherever they grow! Unfortunately, they will grow just about anywhere to the detriment of everything else. But they do look stylish!

Red Roses After The Rain

Our little red rose bush continues to surprise us with its bounty of flowers. Getting them just after the rain is just the icing on the cake!
