Monarch Caterpillar

Fortuitous to have Laci with me because she spotted this Monarch Butterfly caterpillar looking for something to munch!

Tahquamenon Falls - Upper Falls

The Upper Falls section of Tahquamenon Falls in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Known as the 'Root Beer' Falls, tannic acid from the swamps above the falls stains the water. As the water froths over the edge of the falls the visual look is fresh root beer!

Rocky Hollow

A snippet of Rocky Hollow at Turkey Run State Park in Indiana. This trail is one of the best in the Indiana State Park system.

Point of View

I find a macro shot of a spider in profile to be fascinating. However, if you are the prey and see the spider from this view, then you are in much trouble!

Breakfast for Two?

This was my uninvited guest while at our hotel's breakfast buffet. We were in St. Ignace, Michigan, in a room over-looking Lake Huron.

Hazy Evening Moon

I captured this Moon image on a hazy night during a sunset that lit the sky in orange. I had a dozen Moon images on the clearest of nights yet this one is as sharp as any of them!

Spring Look Back

After last night's thunderstorms and 50 mph straight-line winds, it is time for a flashback to the Spring of 2015.

Red-Spotted Purple

A Red-Spotted Purple just sat right in front of us and let me snap several images before he fluttered away. Sometimes the butterflies do that to me just to make me think it is always that simple.

Milkweed Bugs and Nymphs

Walking the huge maze at McCloud Nature Park, Hendricks County, Indiana, we came across this stand of milkweeds covered with milkweed bugs and nymphs!

Red Zinnia

We have zinnias in several colors on the south side of the house. Some times I will catch one with a very consistent color scheme and little petal damage.

Another Flower from One of Our Walks

We saw this flower on the same walk as yesterday's image. This one was a part of a large group of wild flowers (or, as the neighbors call them - weeds)!

Seen While on a Walk

I am not sure what type of flower this one is but it looked nice as we saw it on one of our walks!

Waxing Gibbous

Using the Sony a6000 for hand-held shots of the Moon. I worked both images in Photoshop Elements adjusting the contrast, highlights and shadows, plus cropping them down to get the clearest look at the detail.

This first image was taken this past August.
The camera setup:
ILCE-6000 with SEL18200LE lens.
F6.3
1/320s shutter
ISO 400
Exposure Bias 0
Focal Length 200mm
White Balance Automatic

I captured this second image two hours after the first.
The camera setup:
ILCE-6000 with SEL18200LE lens.
F6.3
1/2500s shutter
ISO 3200
Exposure Bias 0

Washington Township Park

Looking across the creek at Washington Township Park. The old bridge crossing the creek is the U.S. 36 bridge from when the highway ran closer to the parallel rail line. The new highway, just north of here, came in nearly 80 years ago.

Milkweed Bug

A milkweed bug walking across a milkweed pod! That would seem appropriate! I am not sure about the crescent gap in his wings - is that natural or did he have some sort of encounter with some other aggressive creature?

Wild Flowers at the Nature Park

Lots of wild flowers everywhere at Sodalis Nature Park. Coincidentally, the High School Cross Country team practices here and I have a daughter who is on the team. I sometimes get inside hints for photo ops!
